Paranoid Ranting
Global Warming Thugs

By Daniel Muniz

"It is my intention to destroy your career as a liar. If you produce one more editorial against climate change, I will launch a campaign against your professional integrity. I will call you a liar and charlatan to the Harvard community of which you and I are members. I will call you out as a man who has been bought by Corporate America. Go ahead, guy. Take me on."

Michael T. Eckhart,
President - American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE)

The above is an excerpt of a letter that Eckhart sent to Marlo Lewis of the Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI). In addition to ACORE, Michael Eckhart is a member of the Clinton Global Initiative and he is also part of the World Council for Renewable Energy as its co-chairman.

Not only are these harsh words from a supposedly highly educated Harvard man but they also represent a vicious threat to the scientific community that really boils down to thuggery.

Eckhart also wrote a letter to CEI President Fred Smith that stated:

"My children will have a lesser life because you are being paid by oil companies to spread a false story."

In a statement to CEI, Eckhart is giving the organization:

“90 days to reverse its position on global warming, or I will take every action I can think of to shut you down, including filing complaints with the Internal Revenue Service on the basis that CEI is really a lobbyist for the energy industry."

Part of the scientific method involves debate and peer review and that is one aspect where too many global warming enthusiasts fall dismally short in. It is one thing to love the environment but it is something else to hate science while you are in the process of promulgating a theory.

Skepticism is simply a part of the scientific process especially since we live in a world that is fraught with so much fraud. It is natural for people to question your assertions. However, it has almost become an embarrassment that many global warming scientists do not want their work scrutinized even if it was funded by taxpayer dollars. They somehow feel that the public should just take their word for it.

But the worst development is the kind of pathetic invectives that are hurled at people who disagree which is what Michael Eckhart and other global warming scientists have done.

Our history is littered with so many sound scientific theories that have been totally dismantled and I am talking about in the last four decades instead of the last four centuries. But that is what science is all about. Once something is disapproved, it is tossed away and the new facts are given precedence.

Climate change is a vast field that is still very much in its infancy and so much is poorly understood about how our climate really functions. In fact, there are new discoveries made every year and this trend is very likely to continue for the next several decades. As a result, skeptics are sorely needed because there is so much garbage in our news that passes off as legitimate scientific information.

For instance, Al Gore who has a history of exaggerations, boldly proclaimed that global warming is causing more intense hurricanes like that of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Many global warming scientists were quietly uncomfortable by him and others telling such whoppers to the public and they were embarrassed when the 2006 hurricane season was incredibly lame even though we are in this supposed climate change emergency. Additionally, the 2007 season was also just as lame.

The former vice-president now claims that he has “never” said that global warming causes more hurricanes.

Also, Al Gore has even told journalism students that they should suppress any stories about global warming skepticism.

Well, the end does not justify the means and the real danger here is when falsehoods are passed around like truth but our media censors those who are skeptical of such assertions. And what is worse is a press that totally ignores the paranoid ranting of an influential man like Michael Eckhart.

Fortunately, Senator James M. Inhofe of Oklahoma asked EPA Administrator Stephen L. Johnson:

“[If] it is appropriate to be a part of an organization that is headed up by a person who makes this statement."

The EPA as well as the departments of the Agriculture, Commerce, and Energy holds memberships in ACORE.

It is completely inexcusable for governmental agencies to belong to an organization that is run by someone who is a thug and who cannot tolerate anyone who disagrees with his viewpoints and refuses to be a part of the scientific process. It is time for the science community to start respecting the scientific method instead of resorting to threats and character assassination.
