Tomb of
Jesus?
Or Just Another Hollywood Scam?
By D.W.
Hollywood director James Cameron, who dammed all straight men to
three hours of hell with Titanic, is up to new antics. He has
presented ancient artifacts in which he suggests that they might
very well have come from the tomb of Jesus and that may have once
contained his remains, those of Mary Magdalene, and possibly their
son, Judah. Of course the timing of this discovery coincides with
the promotion of his documentary and perhaps his anti-Christian,
liberal agenda. He may also just be hungry for attention since his
career isn’t really going anywhere.
Devout Christians suspect that this whole event is nothing more than
a fraud and a publicity stunt because of its loose archeological
underpinnings.
Mr. Cameron and some scholars displayed two stone ossuaries, or bone
boxes, at a news conference which is just proactive enough to fire
up the secular progressives but not enough to get him in legal
trouble. The artifacts were found in 1980 during construction in
South Jerusalem. Several had inscriptions translated as Jesus, Mary
Magdalene, and "Judah, son of Jesus.
Cameron said, "If things come to light that erode this
investigation, then so be it."
The issue of the tomb is not new as this controversy has been
debated for quite a while. What is new is the involvement of a high
profile Hollywood director such as Cameron in the wake of the bogus
but highly lucrative Da Vinci Code book, movie, and the hoopla
attached to it.
A few low key documentaries have already been aired about the tomb
and most of the work is either inconclusive or found it to be a
hoax. The Israelis, who have no interest in protecting Christianity
including the archeologist who also carried out excavations at the
site on behalf of the Israel Antiquities Authority, disputed the
documentary's conclusions. The archeologist, Amos Kloner, said the
2,000-year-old cave contained coffins belonging to a Jewish family
whose names were similar to those of Jesus and his relatives. Kloner
told Reuters:
"I can say positively that I don't accept the identification (as)
... belonging to the family of Jesus in Jerusalem... I don't accept
that the family of Miriam and Yosef (Mary and Joseph), the parents
of Jesus, had a family tomb in Jerusalem."
The names Jesus, Judah, and Mary were common Jewish names of the
era, like Brian, Chris and Kate are today. I bet that there are
plenty of families that have someone named Brian, Chris and Kate in
the United States right now. After Jesus’ death, these names
probably became even more popular with the Christian Jews of that
era. The names would prove absolutely nothing even if the tomb was
real.
But what are real are the motives of Cameron and his associates who
have a clear and vested financial interest in the conflict?
If you scratched the surface you would find the members of the Da
Vinci Code crowd right behind this issue because it has taken on a
cult status. Consequently, the tomb is the kind of evidence to
support their fraudulent theories of Jesus and it would directly
benefit them with increased sales of books and movies.
The main point of the Da Vinci Code is that Christ was a man just
like everyone else although an extraordinary philosopher. He wasn’t
the son of God as the New Testament claims and wasn’t divine. They
attempt to prove this assertion by showing that Jesus had sexual
relations with Mary Magdalene who bore a child. And since God
wouldn’t have sex, Christ must be only a human and not divine. As a
result, the teachings are just a good philosophy that would make the
world a nicer place but not a religion.
Furthermore, Christianity wouldn’t have any truth or grounding in
the spiritual world and organized religion is bogus. Following
Christianity wouldn’t get you into heaven and there would be no real
need for a church since anyone could follow the philosophy of Jesus
independently.
The moral implications of this are profound since Western
civilization is founded on the Judea-Christian moral system of
absolute truths. Christianity lays clear wrongs and rights that men
cannot alter. However, this ethical code is opposed by moral
relativists who argue that all morality is a purely human creation
and is time and place specific. Whatever man says is moral is moral
because man makes the rules to suit him.
In a morally relativistic society that secular liberals like Cameron
crave, anything goes if you say so.
If the people in a place like California or some kooky judges say it
is okay for men to have sex with young boys because it is supposed
be normal, then that will fly. Human secularism seeks to indulge in
their most vulgar desires openly without any restraints placed upon
them as they now exist. For them, Christianity is just an obstacle
so they are best served by undermining it.
The supposed tomb of Jesus is just the latest effort to subvert the
very foundation of Christian morality.
The tomb itself is more than likely a fraud and there are already
plenty of trustworthy and reliable sources to cast sufficient doubt
on this incident. Just remember, Cameron has a vested interest in
this affair which could make him a lot of money.
