  Race and Racism

Racism Fear
But Still Doing the Right Thing

By Daniel Muniz

"Dude, I just saw some really weird [EXPLETIVE DELETED]. I don't know what to do. Should I call someone or is that being racist?"

The above comment is from an unassuming teenage clerk employed at a New Jersey Circuit City. Two bearded Muslim men just handed him a camcorder mini-cassette that they wanted transferred to a DVD. While the teen and another co-worker were converting the tape to a digital format, what they saw spooked them.

The tape featured Muslim extremists toting guns calling for jihad.

These armed radicals looked like they were ready for action and ready to die for their cause.

Naturally, the kid and his co-worker were upset. However, both were also afraid of being branded a bigot. Political correctness in this country has reached such a fever pitch high in that just about any kind of bad behavior from a “protected” group of people is not only tolerated but often encouraged. Media sensation after media sensation vividly demonstrates that only white people are racists and everybody else is a victim of their wrongs.

As a result, there is a lot of unacceptable and inappropriate conduct that goes unnoticed in this country because a minority did it. Such bad behavior is simply not newsworthy or cause for concern. But if a white person did the same thing, the incident would generate huge media coverage and flood the airwaves with endless discussion about the racist undercurrent that still exists in this country.

However, what these employees saw was clearly disturbing. After some hesitation and consultation with a manager, the teenager dialed 911. This clerk’s courage then triggered an unstoppable chain of events that prevented an enormous act of terrorism. The extremists were meticulously planning to massacre soldiers at the Fort Dix army base in New Jersey as part of their jihad against the United States.

These employees are definitely heroes.

However, their conundrum illustrates a bigger problem in this country. Racial arsonists like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson have spent decades fanning the flames of class warfare and racial tension. And the media has bought into it because the press loves extremes and this kind of divisiveness produces plenty of sensationalism.

Although political correctness is bad in the United States, it is nowhere near the boiling point that is already prevalent in Western Europe. Ed Husain who wrote "The Islamist: Why I Joined Radical Islam in Britain, What I Saw Inside and Why I Left" once explained in a Newsweek interview:

There is a problem with multiculturalism and letting everyone do what they want to do. Our teachers aren't keen to confront, challenge or debate expressions of radicalism. So in the name of multiculturalism we have these monocultural ghettos, this underworld where none of this is ever questioned. You can walk into certain parts of London and quite easily advocate a jihad and destroying Israel and ultimately confronting Britain, and nobody would raise an eyelid. As long as that's there, Britain faces problems.

Unfortunately, that is where this country is headed to.

Much of Western Europe is terrified of violating the norms of political correctness and permissive liberalism. Sadly, many European nations have already faced the consequences of extremists inciting violence and committing terrorist acts for the sake of jihad and for advancing radical Islam. Yet, Europeans are still uncomfortable in directly confronting these miscreants because they may be offended.

The employees in New Jersey who notified the authorities about the terrorist plot that they saw unfolding certainly felt the pressure of political correctness. They didn’t want to be labeled a racist even though what they witnessed was cause for alarm. However, a sense of what is right and wrong and decency took precedence over the idiosyncrasies our popular culture. Ultimately, their courage helped save lives.

However, for some people, it is more important to be politically correct than it is to be right, regardless of the outcome.

In fact, there are a number of people who are embarrassed to be an American so whatever is done to exacerbate our social problems is seen as a perverse positive. These are the type of people who want to scream torture if the authorities even put a pair of handcuffs on a terrorist.

This kind of mentality is a slippery slope that will lead to the destruction of Western values and freedom.

In fact, we are already seeing Muslim extremists intimidating Western European nations and influencing their foreign policy. And these extremists are also influencing many aspects of Western culture in Europe with murders and violence against anything they perceive as offensive. Yet, many European governments are impotent on how to handle such increasing unrest.

It is time to put an end to political correctness. There are harsh realities that have to be accepted because there is no way that a civilized nation can tolerate bad behavior to run rampant without any restraint. It is already wrecking havoc in Europe and it could happen here in the United States.

This time we had some courageous young adults who did the right thing. Next time we might not be so lucky.
