Broadcasting Bogus Facts

The Left Wing radio network Air America has announced that it is undergoing major restructuring and will be filing for bankruptcy. In classic “free market” fashion the station has had to lay off employees without even providing severance pay or benefits. Of course they also claim that Liberal radio is not dead, but stronger than ever and that they will launch a nationwide search for a new Left Wing talk radio icon.

Now I have only listened to Air America programming a few of times in my life; all for about a total of two minutes. But within those couple of minutes I came to understand why Air America was failing and why Left Wing talk radio will never mature into serious programming. In those two of minutes Air America commentators have managed to offend me and just about every U.S. Veteran within their repulsive ignorance. Most Americans don’t want to listen to programming that sounds like a Tokyo Rose broadcast where the U.S. is portrayed as being the spawn of Satan.

The first time I tuned to Air America on my XM Radio was by accident. A commentator was discussing the Abu Gharib scandal, which was a serious affair. She equated all 18 year old soldiers with raucous frat boys running amok, whether they were involved in war crimes or not. She also said that they should not be allowed to represent the U.S. overseas and that they were all criminals and degenerates.

Now I know for a fact that this commentator’s premise was absolutely false as I have had many 18 year old boys under my charge through two combat tours in Iraq. Only a small percentage of soldiers and marines are criminal thugs and they often end up being mustered out. However, the vast majority of them constitute the best and brightest this nation has to offer.

The most recent incident involved another commentator criticizing Donald Rumsfeld for a confusing statement he made during a brief to congress. She said he was an idiot, which is a fair opinion even though I don’t share it. However, she also said it was amazing that our servicemen weren’t shooting each other under Rumsfeld’s leadership.

Well, we weren’t shooting each other under President Clinton’s distinguished and morally profound leadership. Whether or not soldiers commit fratricide is a matter of training and first line leadership that has little to do with actions by civilian leaders. The best thing civilian administrators can do is to provide funds for training. Thus, the incompetence of civilian guidance has little effect on the ability of soldiers to prevent fratricide.

What these Liberal commentators fail to understand is that the military is a serious profession with higher standards of conduct than for journalists or politicians. Soldiers are punished for having extra-marital affairs, something that journalists are not ever rebuked for; apparently U.S. Presidents are not punished for this either. Soldiers can end up in jail for intentionally lying, but the worst that a journalist could face for the same offense is getting fired or sued. There are probably exceptions for extreme cases of journalistic fraud but I don’t know of anyone who went to jail for lying.

But most importantly, what Liberal commentators and the media don’t tell you are all the non-sensational acts of kindness and selflessness done by the American soldier and marine.

The press doesn’t tell you about soldiers who spend their own money to buy shoes and clothes for Iraqi children living in poverty. They don’t tell you how soldiers take dead and wounded civilians under their protection very personally. They don’t tell you how a squad of soldiers rescued a kidnapped girl and safely returned her to her family. They don’t tell you about the personal connections and friendships that many soldiers and marines make with Iraqis. They don’t tell you about U.S. medics who deliver Iraqi babies when doctors aren’t available.

If the media ever did write about these realities it might undermine their image of the conflict in Iraq.

So what about soldiers and marines being ruthless butchers and baby killers?

Contrary to popular belief, pulling the trigger and taking a human life is a very unnatural act and requires training and military discipline for the average person to do it. I know this because I have been behind the trigger and I have had to make shoot/don’t decisions, while my soldiers were following my lead. More often than not soldiers and marines do not shoot and kill in unclear situations, even when it would be lawful for them to do so.

In a few rare circumstances soldiers and marines are filled with rage which results in the murder of prisoners and non-combatants. I have read and heard from various sources that most homicides here at home are crimes of passion, committed against victims that the perpetrator already knew. However, unlike civilian murders, killing in war is a less emotionally charged event, as you rarely ever know the person you have killed in combat. Murder of non-combatants is an inexcusable tragedy but it still is the rare exception instead of the norm and more often than not it is the fault of the leadership to maintain discipline and standards.

Air America has lousy ratings and only exists through the support of everyone’s favorite felon George Soros and his liberal billionaire battle buddies. What troubles me is that many Air America listeners actually believe the garbage that is broadcasted about the military.

Many of these lefties bash the U.S. soldier and marine while idolizing that murderous thug Che Guevara.

I wonder if they can imagine themselves fighting along side Che and Fidel against the evil imperialist puppets. I wonder if they know that Che executed fighters at will for cowardice and for opposing his opinion, which was treason. Not even our military executes soldiers at will for cowardice or treason. Come to think of it, we haven’t executed a soldier since World War II.

Would these Liberals even have the courage to fight and die as Che did for his Communist beliefs? I seriously doubt it!

Thus, Air America’s failure is not surprising as only a few American’s actually think that they live in an evil country. However, the Left Wing movement that inhabits the core Air America audience is too liberal believe anything else but this nonsense. Fortunately, they are only a few who have disproportionately loud screams and along with some billionaire sugar daddies.
