Sanctuary
Cities A Haven for Violent Criminals
By Daniel Muniz
In San Francisco, twice convicted felon and gang banger Edwin Ramos,
age 21, brutally murdered a father and his two sons in an act of
road rage. However, Ramos is an illegal alien and because of the
sanctuary cities and states that protect illegal immigrants, he was
never deported for his previous felonies.
The biggest problem with the sanctuary cities and the states that
wholeheartedly welcome illegal aliens is that they inadvertently end
up shielding low life degenerates who are dangerous.
A scumbag like Edwin Ramos should not have even been walking free on
our streets but being an illegal alien definitely has its
privileges. Unfortunately, there are cities and states that refuse
to cooperate with federal authorities whenever they apprehend an
illegal immigrant who is violating a criminal law.
It is one thing for a local law enforcement agency to not look for
people who are here in this country illegally because that is a
federal problem. Perhaps that can be a legitimate argument because
most municipalities don’t have the funding or training to apprehend
illegal aliens although there are now programs offered by the
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency to deputize local
police officers just for that role.
But it is a totally different story when the cops already have
somebody locked up because he or she is being charged and prosecuted
for a criminal offense, especially if it is a violent crime. There
is absolutely no additional burden added to the workload of a police
department except for making a phone call or sending a fax to
federal authorities, particularly if ICE already has an office in
the same city or somewhere in the same state.
Once ICE is informed, they will handle the federal prosecution and
subsequent deportation of the illegal alien.
However, since these cities and states already know exactly what
will happen to an illegal immigrant if the federal authorities are
contacted, they have prohibited their law enforcement agencies from
informing ICE of the people they have locked up that are illegally
here in this country.
The rationale for this policy is that if ICE doesn’t know if an
illegal alien is behind bars in some municipal or county jail, then
there is not a way for them to deport that person. And it is
irrelevant how serious the crime is.
That is how a dirt bag like Ramos was not only able to walk our
streets with impunity but he was able to continue his livelihood as
a violent thug especially since he belongs to one of the nation’s
most vicious gangs, Mara Salvatrucha, otherwise known as MS-13.
MS-13 is a savage Central American gang known for their barbarity
and they are slowly gaining a foothold in the United States.
And sanctuary cities like San Francisco offer these street hoods the
perfect refuge from federal agents.
So the way that this tragedy unfolded is that one day in bumper to
bumper traffic, Ramos was annoyed at a car that prevented him from
making a left turn at a busy intersection. So he whips out an AK-47
assault rifle and leaps out of his vehicle and approaches the car
that is blocking his path. He then sprays the occupants, Anthony
Bologna, 49, and his two sons, Michael, 20, and Matthew, 16, with a
hail of gunfire. Anthony and Michael die instantly but Matthew
struggles on for a few more days before he too finally dies.
Before this shooting, Ramos was already convicted on two previous
felonies.
In fact, prior to this incident he was arrested several months
beforehand when the cops found a gun in the car he was driving.
Sadly, the district attorney decided not to file any charges even
though a felon is not supposed to have a gun in his possession,
which is a very serious offense.
As vividly illustrated here, so many cities and states have gone way
beyond protecting the people who are here in this county illegally,
they routinely dismiss or minimize the severity of the crimes they
are charged with. American citizens could get the book thrown at
them but many illegal immigrants may not be prosecuted or at the
very worst, they get a slap on the wrist. That is how a thug like
Edwin Ramos was able to freely walk the streets of San Francisco at
age 21 even though he had already been convicted of two previous
felonies.
Hoodlums need to be imprisoned for a long time and just because
someone is an illegal alien doesn’t mean that he or she is entitled
to special privileges that allow them to escape punishment. There
are so many jurisdictions that do precisely that and then they are
shocked that these same scumbags end up committing even more serious
crimes.
Because of Ramos, the city of San Francisco did a lot of finger
pointing except to themselves.
Even though a city will not turn in illegal immigrants to federal
authorities, does that mean that they also have to coddle criminals?
That is a question a lot of sanctuary cites are beginning to ask
because coddling criminals is sending the wrong message to violent
thugs. There are so many incidents exactly like this one in which an
illegal alien doesn’t get prosecuted by a local district attorney or
only gets a slap on the wrist. And because he doesn’t get deported,
he continues his life of crime which eventually leads to something
as serious as murder.
Until major changes are made, sanctuary cities and states will
continue to shield violent criminals and that will make our streets
unsafe for all of us.
