  Immigration Reform

Illegal Alien Terror
Breakdown of Immigration Laws

By Daniel Muniz

The homegrown Muslim plot to kill servicemen at the Fort Dix army base in New Jersey shocked the nation. Using paid informants, the FBI infiltrated the core group of plotters to obtain evidence which eventually led to the thwarting of the massacre. But what is most disturbing is that three of the plotters were brothers who happened to be illegal aliens. In addition to being in this country illegally, the brothers had numerous brushes with the law that should have landed them in jail. Unfortunately, being an illegal alien does have its privileges.

The three brothers, Eljvir, Dritan and Shain Duka each had their driver’s licenses suspended quite a number of times; Eljvir 24 times, Dritan 11 times, and Shain 19 times.

How an illegal alien can legitimately obtain a driver’s license is a travesty of our legal system but that is not the point.

Not a single brother was ever jailed even though they were blatantly flouting the law to cause the numerous suspensions.

In fact, the chief of police of Cherry Hill, the suburb of Philadelphia where the brothers resided, was well aware of the mind boggling number of traffic violations that all the men had. This kind of driving history is an appalling reminder that each of these brothers posed a driving hazard to anyone they shared the road with. Simply put, these are people who should not even be driving on our highways yet they drive with impunity.

Unfortunately, nothing was ever done to any of these brothers by law enforcement and by the local prosecutors.

Even though all three of the brothers were repeat offenders, the authorities looked the other way and ignored their unlawful behavior. Ordinary citizens know full well of the severity of traffic violations and they are fully aware of the consequences. Furthermore, ordinary people also know that they will be harshly punished if they continue to violate traffic laws (higher insurance rates, etc).

Ironically, even spoiled Hollywood celebrities like Paris Hilton still have to deal with the law and its repercussions.

But more importantly, the hypocrisy here is enormous.

How is it that illegal aliens can get away with stuff like that but ordinary citizens will be required to pay big fines and even risk jail time for being a repeat offender? It is just ridiculous.

And what is truly a shame is that far too many municipalities and states simply ignore the minor offenses that illegal aliens commit. It is almost like being an illegal alien exempts you from any kind of obligation and responsibility that everyone else has to adhere to. That kind of mentality has to stop. Ordinary citizens will get tossed in jail for the doing the same egregious acts yet an illegal immigrant will not get punished.

In addition, brothers Shain and Dritan Duka also pleaded guilty to drug charges.

That alone should have been more than enough for both brothers to have been immediately deported.

Unfortunately, the state of New Jersey is unconcerned with informing federal authorities about the illegal aliens that they have in their possession even when they are committing more serious crimes.

But what is really scary is that New Jersey is not alone.

The states of Alaska, Maine, and Oregon have official policies that explicitly state that they will not share any information about illegal aliens with federal authorities. And there are many more states that are in the process of implementing similar policies. There are also thousands of cities and towns who look the other way while there are even a number of municipalities that offer refuge to illegal immigrants.

As a colleague of mine is fond of saying:

It is all fun and games until terrorists hijack a school bus and kill a bunch of kids.

This time it wasn’t children but soldiers at an army base and lucky for us the plot was foiled. But the arrests of the plotters vividly demonstrate how serious a problem that illegal immigration can turn into if this country cannot get its act together and start prosecuting and deporting illegal aliens.

Unfortunately, our immigrations laws are mired in contradictions and paradoxes. It is this lax atmosphere that allows illegal aliens who are already breaking our laws to escalate their activities into terrorist acts.

We as a country cannot allow anarchy to exist. The United States is a nation of laws and it is time to start enforcing them before more terrorists exploit the enormous weaknesses of our justice system.
